I’m Dominic Fawcett, an Earth observation scientist and currently postdoc researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL
On this website I summarise my research activities, give updates on current projects and provide some background and tutorials on a range of related topics.
Research in summary

An ever growing number of satellites are taking the pulse of the Earth and its ecosystems. As Earth observation scientists we find ways of interpreting this vast archive of data and communicate our findings to inform the public and policymakers.
We develop models that use satellite data as inputs for large scale estimation of quantities of interest, such as carbon stocks and fluxes. To parameterise and validate these models we also need reliable information on what’s happening closer to the ground, through autonomous monitoring methods or sometimes laborious field measurements. You can find more information on these topics in the Research tab and Blog.
